Highway 12 Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvements

The Highway 12 Corridor Improvement Project Phase II brought essential infrastructure to the Boyes Hot-Springs area along Highway 12 between Agua Caliente Road and Boyes Boulevard, just north of Sonoma. The project improves the safety and atmosphere of the corridor, which is used by drivers, cyclists, families, and pedestrians who work, live, shop in the neighborhood. The total project cost is estimated to be about $13 Million, including right of way, design, construction and more. The project was designed by Transportation and Public Works, Green Valley provided construction management, and O.C. Jones & Sons was the general contractor. The project included the construction of pedestrian and bicycle facilities, roadway widening, asphalt pavement replacement, installation of curbs, gutters and sidewalks, stormwater treatment devices, pedestrian level street lights, and traffic signal modifications on State Route 12 between Agua Caliente Road and Boyes Blvd in the Springs Area of Sonoma Valley. Construction is nearing completion. In August 2016 the highway was paved – one of the final and momentous steps of the project. Utility relocation work began in February 2015, with road work commencing in August of 2015. Highway 12 Improvements are a result of dedication and partnership between Sonoma County, Caltrans, and residents and businesses along the corridor.
