Forbes Boulevard Bike Lane Improvements

This project reconstructed Forbes Boulevard to convert a road with two lanes in each direction, to one lane in each direction with bike lanes and a wider median.  The project included roadway demolition, new median curbs, a new underdrain system, new landscaping, resurfacing within the project limits, new LED street lights, traffic signal modifications, and features for bike lanes and improved pedestrian crossings. Environmental  –  During the installation of underground storm drain pipes, existing AT&T fiber optic lines were exposed and found to be in conflict. AT&T was contacted and with their guidance, the project contractor temporarily moved the fiber optic lines out of the way. This work was coordinated so that work was performed efficiently to minimize project delays. Sustainability “Green” Construction  –  The project design did not provide for storm water runoff during construction to tie-in with the existing storm drain systems.  To prevent potential delays and additional costs to the project, a portion of the new storm drain system was realigned and connected to the existing system.  Adverse Conditions  –  Work was completed along a heavily trafficked arterial road.  A dated and unappealing median was replaced with new landscaping and irrigation which greatly improved the area’s aesthetics. Safety Performance  –  Every member of the CM team contributed to the safety effort by identifying potential safety issues and immediately bringing them to the contractor’s attention. Once a safety issue was identified, the CM team followed up with the contractor to ensure that it was rectified in a timely manner. Safety was also an agenda item at the weekly progress meeting. All workers were required to wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) Project Fatality: I verify there were no construction-related fatalities on this project.  Safety Record:  No. of Recordables = 0; Lost Time Accident Rate = 0
