Cosumnes River Boulevard / I-5 Interchange and Extension

This project is located in the southwest quadrant of the City of Sacramento. The Cosumnes River Boulevard/I-5 Interchange & Extension Project extends Cosumnes River Boulevard from its current westerly terminus at Franklin Boulevard to an interchange at I-5, and then farther west to an at-grade intersection with Freeport Boulevard in the currently unincorporated town of Freeport. Cosumnes River Boulevard/I-5 Interchange & Extension Project has resulted in a long-anticipated east-west arterial which will reduce traffic delays and improve safety. The connection includes a new interchange where the boulevard crosses Interstate 5, efficiently linking I-5 with State Route 99 to the east and providing a new regional connection between Franklin and Freeport boulevards. Construction of this project serves to shorten travel time between local communities and neighborhoods. Specifically, the project provides relief for the Meadowview/Mack Road corridor by increasing route continuity between SR 99 and Interstate 5. Vehicle mobility is improved thereby reducing objectionable travel delays. The project will also result in improved medical and emergency vehicle response times, particularly during peak periods. With Cosumnes River College, Methodist Hospital, and Kaiser Permanente Medical Center South, facilities all located near State Route 99 between Mack Road and Cosumnes River Boulevard, improved access and mobility will certainly improve traffic flow for the local and surrounding neighborhoods as well as the region.
