Project Description

The City street network is 139 centerline miles in length and is comprised of 103 miles of residential streets, 21 miles of collector streets and 15 miles of arterial streets. Preservation of this $340 million network occurs routinely throughout the year as various programs are planned, implemented and completed. Proactive and timely maintenance of asphalt reduces the need of limited natural resources more than any other pavement rehabilitation strategy. The effectiveness of the overall program is visible and tangible in a number of ways. 1) Inconveniences to residents and businesses are minimized due to the close coordination of projects 2) All aspects of right of way improvements are considered and coordinated at one time 3) Reduced number of claims received by City 4) Efficiency in coordination of projects reduces project management costs 5) Due to the timing of projects, unit costs submitted by contractors have been lower 6) Bicycle / pedestrian and other forms of transportation are enhanced and given high priority throughout all programs 7) Cumulatively, from FY 13/14 through FY 15/16, 4.8 miles of bike buffers and 5.6 lane miles have been narrowed to accommodate bike buffers, additional on-street parking and to increase safety. 8) Provided the authorization of ongoing funding continues as recommended, deferred maintenance will reduce from $21.4 million to $4.6 million by 2019 9) Street network PCI will increase to 80 by 2019 and 10) Consistent and continued use of recycled rubber products
