Project Description

Ranked the top most congested arterial intersection in the Gateway Cities region of Los Angeles County, Bellflower Blvd. at the 91 Fwy had long been a congestion nightmare for commuters in the southeast LA County area. The City of Bellflower designed the widening project to incorporate an additional lane of traffic in both the north/southbound direction as well as lengthening the northbound left turn lane onto the 91 Fwy westbound on-ramp increasing the vehicle capacity in the turn lane from 3 vehicles to 14 vehicles. In order to have the needed space to widening the street, the City had to acquire private property, particularly on the west side of Bellflower Blvd. The City worked with two private property owners and successfully relocated the businesses into the City’s downtown area where they continue to operate today. In total, the project came in on budget at $8.44 million dollars which included the needed right-of-way acquisition and relocation of businesses, the PS&E for the project and the actual construction. While this was a City of Bellflower project, the City was supported by LA County Metro as well as Caltrans on this project.
