Location (if applicable): Central Avenue: Colorado Street to Glenoaks Boulevard City or County Responsible for Project: City of Glendale, California Central Avenue in the City of Glendale is a four-lane major arterial street running through the bustling business district, carrying an average daily traffic of up to 43,000 vehicles. The rehabilitation project was fraught with issues from the start due to trenching from two previous projects. The City, however, overcame the hurdles and ultimately developed a project that used cold central plant recycling techniques to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and 360 project-related truck trips, had a cost savings of $340,000 compared to traditional construction methods, saved 10,900 tires from the landfill, recycled approximately 1,596 tons of existing asphalt concrete, and minimized the impacts to the traveling public.
